This tank is not on display in a public area. Please seek permission
from the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center before attempting to visit
its location. Our photos were taken during the MUTC annual open house event that gives the public access to the facility.
The Muscatatuck Urban Training Center is
home to this Iraqi T-72M. It was captured during the first Gulf War
and was originally on display at the Patton Museum in Fort Knox. The
tank was reportedly operational at some point during its stay at the
Patton Museum, but its current condition is unclear. It arrived at
Muscatatuck for display in 2010.
It is disputed whether
Iraq actually produced its own T-72 variant, known as the Asad Babil
(Lion of Babylon), but the Cyrillic character at the beginning of the
serial number would indicate that this tank was original Soviet
production. The T-72 was mainly fielded by Iraqi Republican Guard
divisions.
